The Bible - Divine Protection

Psalm 119:28 - "Strengthen me according to Your Word."

Early in the Civil War, General Stonewall Jackson of the Confederacy, wrote a letter in which he listed the fate of three Rebels soldiers.  “Mr. James Davidson’s son, Frederick, and William Page (son of my dear friend) were killed.  Young Riley’s life was saved by his Bible, which was in the breast pocket of his coat...”.  While two soldiers were killed in battle one was saved when the Bible that he carried in his jacket pocket stopped a bullet that would have otherwise pierced his heart.  What a lesson for us!

The Bible is full of God’s promises for us.  It also contains His laws and commands.  As we obey it and hide it in our heart, it gives us divine protection.  God’s Word can shield our heart from an attack of the enemy.  It can strengthen us against temptation.  It can give us faith.  And hope.  And courage.  And comfort.  And peace.  It is one of our main defenses against Satan, the world and the flesh.

Lord, thank you for Your Word.  Thank you that it is available in my language.  That it is legal for me to own one.  Help me to read it.  And memorize it.  And live by it.  May it keep my life safe and secure from any and all attacks.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
