A number of years ago I heard John Maxwell quote the following poem. While I don’t agree with everything that Maxwell says I was immediately taken by his poem. I don’t know who wrote it so I can’t give the author credit. The poem is a miniature sermon, full of wisdom. I like it because it draws our attention to what is really important in life. I hope that you enjoy the poem as much as I do.
I counted dollars while God counted crosses,
I counted gains while He counted losses,
I counted my worth by my things gained and stored,
But He sized me up by the scars that I bore,
I coveted honors and sought for degrees,
He counted the hours I spent on my knees,
I never knew ‘til one day by the grave,
How vain are the things that we spend life to save.
Lord, help to have Your view on what is really important in life. Then help me to pursue it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
